Reflexive EQ
A simple dynamic EQ that works fast...
The Reflexive EQ is quick to configure, due to its automatic gain-staging and simple controls.
The plugin comprises four dynamic EQ bell curves, each of which can be used in compression or expansion mode, processing mid and/or side information.
The device is highly responsive, with adjustable attack and release times for each EQ bell, up to 10ms look-ahead, and minimum-phase filters designed to move quickly without pre-ringing or other artifacts.
Features
- Up to 4 independent dynamic EQ bell curves, each with controls for gain, frequency, Q and attack/release times
- Each EQ bell can process Mid and/or Side information
- Detector frequency range can be customized and auditioned
- Up to 10ms look-ahead
- Automatic detector threshold allows the device to work the same on loud or quiet material
- Optional automatic make-up gain targeting neutral LUFS impact
- External sidechain ducking capability (if using the AU version of the plugin, click “sidechain” in the display to activate)
- Spectrum analyzer with enhanced low-end time/frequency resolution
- Potentially clashing frequencies are highlighted when an external sidechain is connected
- Resizable user interface
- Factory presets included
How to use
- Drag the circles to adjust the frequency and gain of each EQ bell
- Click on a bell to select it and reveal additional controls (or use left/right arrow keys)
- Double-clicking an EQ bell toggles it on/off
- Q-factor (i.e. filter sharpness) can be adjusted with mouse scrollwheel
- If using a custom detector frequency range, adjust it by dragging the vertical blue bars that appear in the display
- Click the display for instant A/B test (bypass mode continues to use CPU in order to keep the plugin calibrated to the incoming signal)
- Double-click a control to reset it to its default value, or hold <CTRL>/<CMD> to fine-tune
Technical notes
- Available in VST3, AAX & AU formats for Windows and MacOS
- Requires a compatible Digital Audio Workstation or other plugin host
- Up to 10ms latency from optional look-ahead, otherwise zero latency
- Maximum instantaneous phase rotation from recursion bell filters is ~20 degrees, localized to frequencies where the amplitude response curve is steepest
- Spectrum analyzer has a range of 140dB and 4.5db/octave tilt
- Plugin is designed for common audio signals such as music and voice; may not react meaningfully to artificial test signals such as chirps, impulses and bursts
